[TN-Bird] Rose-breasted Grosbeaks continue, grackles fade

Hi folks,

Today I walked up the closed section of Foothills Parkway north of US
321 in Blount County.

It was mid afternoon, so no surprise that warbler and thrush action
was low. I *think* I had my first Yellow-rumped Warbler of the year,
but I didn't get a good enough look. I had my first there by this
time last year, so it is possible.

There were, however, MANY Rose-breasted Grosbeaks eating everything
that looked like food. I was a bit nervous of my ears and nose the
way these guys (in all plumages) were going to town. A lot of them
were down close to the ground, too. Grapes seemed to be the
preferred food, but leaf and flower buds were also on the menu. I
did not see any gravelling on the ground, as one sometimes does with
this many.

The Common Grackles at our home in south Blount County continue, but
are dwindling as the Chinquapin Oak acorns disappear. I'm kind of
surprised I never saw a toussle between them and the squirrels.

Haven't heard the Great-horned Owl in 3 days or so.
Charlie
