Reelfoot Lake area
Lake & Obion Counties
November 24, 2009

I spent a couple of hours around Reelfoot Lake this morning and early
afternoon. It was very windy which made viewing conditions while scoping the
lake much less than desirable! I was finally able to find one adult LITTLE
GULL all the way across the lake while I was scoping from the TWRA boat ramp
area just west of Samburg. I was scoping a raft of diving ducks (scaup,
Ring-necks, Ruddies) when a small gull with dark underwings flew through the
background of my scope. It was with 25 or so Bonaparte's Gulls.

There are still a few Am. White Pelicans on the lake and I had one group of 40
soaring up over the trees north of Samburg. Cormorants, coots, and grebes
(mostly Pied-billed with a few Horned Grebes) were scattered about the lake. I
did not see anything which looked like a Clark's but as I said conditions were
not favorable so that bird could easily still be around. I did have one Common
Loon on the lake on the south end off of Lake Dr.

Mike Todd was up there as well and I talked to him on the phone a couple of
times. He had gone north to Black Bayou and was working his way back around the
south end of the lake when I had to leave. Hopefully he'll have something good
to report later.

Good birding,
