Howdy all,

There has been a spate of reports of oversummering Cackling Geese in Tennessee in recent weeks, from several different locations and by different observers. Granted, anything is possible in the bird world, and this is a recently recognized species whose distribution and identification are still being worked out. Still, there are no previous summer records from Tennessee. Indeed there are very few summer records at all in the lower 48 outside of the core wintering areas in the southern plains and west coast. It would be very nice if someone could photograph at least one of these geese, and perhaps even write it up for the Bird Records Committee.
