To follow up...

It took me 15 minutes to find a hatchery that sells Cackling Geese chicks by the half dozen. Given that all but one of the recent flurry of Cackler sightings have been on farm ponds, I would repeat that these birds should be photographed, and add that they should be identified to subspecies as carefully as possible before they might be considered wild birds. The Cacklers I found for sale appeared to be the "true" (i.e. original narrow sense) Cackling Goose, which is a considerably smaller and darker bird than the Richardson's (hutchinsii) subspecies we get as wild birds here.
