I birded Rankin Bottoms and Dutch Bottoms in Cocke County, TN today (Dec 1, 2005) from 9:43 to 11:05 at Rankin and 11:39 to 12:39 at Dutch Bottoms. I'm defining Dutch Bottoms as the area between Hill Rankin Road and the 25E/32 bridge over the French Broad River. This area is on page 61 of the DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer for Tennessee. Douglas Lake levels were 954.5 at 9 am this morning. The first number is the number counted for Rankin Bottoms and the second number is the number counted for Dutch Bottoms. The following list is a select list and does not include all the birds seen. 1. Kiildeer- 8, 19 2. Least Sandpiper- 0, 3 3. Wilson's Snipe- 7, 0 (seen at Birder's Point) 4. GB Heron- 24, 1 5.
