Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Davidson Co.
Nashville, TN
2008 October 2
7:15 - 9:45 am
clear and cool

Compared to yesterday's visit, there seemed to be much more
activity at Radnor Lake today. I walked my usual route from
the west parking lot to Long Bridge and back, mostly along
the Lake Trail. Instead of the more than 500 COMMON GRACKLEs
of yesterday, I only estimated 200+. Plenty of BLUE JAY
migrants made their presence known as well. A large flock
of CHIMNEY SWIFTs remained with over 60 seen. PHILADELPHIA
VIREOs and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKs continue to trickle through.
Winter species included RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and WHITE-
THROATED SPARROW. Warbler numbers seemed higher than yesterday,
and I saw 13 species in all. MAGNOLIA's still dominate but
there was a large number of BLACK-THROATED GREENs as well.
The warblers were mostly seen along the water's edge and in
the sunlight.

Birds of interest included:
Wood Duck 19
Chimney Swift 60+
White-eyed Vireo 1 at the dam
Philadelphia Vireo 4
House Wren 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Gray Catbird 4
Cedar Waxwing 30+

Warblers:
Tennessee 3
Nashville 1
N. Parula 2
Chestnut-sided 3
Magnolia 25
Yellow-rumped 4
Black-throated Green 10
Blackburnian 1
Black-and-white 2
Am. Redstart 8 (2 were adult males)
Hooded Warbler 1 male
Wilson's warbler 1 female near the dam
Canada Warbler 1

White throated Sparrow 1
Rose-breasted Grosbeak 5
Indigo Bunting 1
