I too was privileged to spend many hours in the field with Jeff and learned a lot. While our relationship had deteriorated significantly in the last couple of years as a result of certain strongly held objections concerning North American Birds, I will always respect him for his hours in the field, his great storytelling, and his incredible eyes. Since I was in Memphis for a conference, I decided to make a quick trip to the Pits this morning as a sort of tribute to the Ol' Coot. Not a lot there, but knowing how much he loved watching raptors down there, he would have thoroughly enjoyed the crippling looks I had of an imm. dark-morph HARLAN'S HAWK. Two GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were also hanging around. Shortly after that, I banded an AHY-F Rufous Hummingbird in Memphis. Chris Sloan Nashville, TN http://www.chrissloanphotography.com
