December 22, 2008 Gibson County Lake East of Trenton, Gibson County I visited Gibson County Lake this afternoon and viewing conditions were ideal. The sun was at my back and the water was calm and like glass. I scoped the entire lake and there were several ducks: Hooded Merganser - 6 Bufflehead - 4 Ruddy Duck - 1 Mallard - 64 Gadwall - 8 Canvasback - 20 Other birds of note: Common Loon - 5 Pacific Loon - 1 Pied-billed Grebe - 6 Ring-billed Gull - 37 The Pacific Loon was out near the center of the lake snorkling & diving by itself away from the Common Loons. After watching it for a while it swam to within 50 yards of the shore for excellent views. After about 3 minutes it returned to the center of the lake and was still there when I left. This is my first Gibson County record for Pacific Loon. I did not see the adult Bald Eagle that is usually on the south end of the lake. Good birding, Mark Greene Trenton, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
