Norris Dam Songbird Trail Sunday November 23, Anderson County, TN, 11:30 a.m. - 3:15 pm. I too can report that the Surf Scoter and White-Winged Scoter were at the weir dam yesterday. I walked the whole loop and found a new species for me there... PURPLE FINCH. I first spotted one high in a tree near several goldfinches. She then flew down and when I relocated her beside a small stream there were two of them. I suspect that one was a female and the other an immature because the one fed the other one and females and immatures look alike. Other highlights were 2 WINTER WRENS and my FOS HERMIT THRUSH. I was hoping for some of the Pine Siskins the Trently brother had last weekend but either they had moved on or I don't know how to find Pine Siskins. My count follows: Mallard 24 Ring-necked Duck 2 Surf Scoter 1 White-winged Scoter 1 American Coot 1 Belted Kingfisher 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker 2 Downy Woodpecker 2 Northern Flicker 1 Blue Jay 8 American Crow 5 Carolina Chickadee 6 Tufted Titmouse 4 White-breasted Nuthatch 1 Carolina Wren 4 Winter Wren 2 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2 Eastern Bluebird 2 Hermit Thrush 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler 2 Field Sparrow 2 Song Sparrow 6 White-throated Sparrow 4 Northern Cardinal 2 Purple Finch 2 American Goldfinch 9 Carole Gobert, Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee _________________________________________________________________ Color coding for safety: Windows Live Hotmail alerts you to suspicious email. http://windowslive.com/Explore/Hotmail?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_hotmail_acq_safety_112008 =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
