Amber and I also ran up to check out the scoters on the Clinch River below Norris Dam (Anderson Co) on Sunday (23 Nov). Carole Gobert was there when we arrived. We also got great looks at the Surf and White-winged Scoters. Both appear to be immature females based on facial pattern and pale bellies. We had a few hundred 'flyby' scoters of all 3 species (mostly Black) at Wrightsville Beach, NC, a couple of weeks ago but it was good to get to study them up close and at length. Unfortunately, the lighting was horrible and I didn't get many decent photos. Need to go back in the early morning when light should from a better angle. Other notables from the wier dam area on the Clinch included a rather late OSPREY and a flock of about 40-50 blackbirds which were probably Rusty Blackbirds but they were silent flybys and I was looking into the sun. One of the blackbirds had white primaries giving a little excitement and thoughts of Yellow-headed Blackbird but the entire primaries were white and apparently just on one wing.
