Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN Thursday 2009 May 7 7-10 am cloudy to partly cloudy Having been drowned out at Radnor Lake yesterday, an eclectic group of Nashville area birders descended on Radnor this Thursday morning to look for warblers and whatever else might drop out of the sky. I saw or heard 17 warbler species during my 3 hour stay, and others had at least four species that I missed. Most of the other birders were still going strong when I had to leave to earn a living. Best bird of the morning was a MOURNING WARBLER that Jan Shaw initially heard on our way to Long Bridge but he was too far from the trail to find. At Long Bridge my appointment with work forced me to retrace my steps along the trail and between benches 18 and 19 (closer to 19) I heard the MOURNING sing again. After a couple minute wait I had killer views of the bird when it flew up into a vine at eye level and posed for a few seconds. Other warblers of particular interest were a male WILSON'S, CANADA, BLACKBURNIAN, CERULEAN, and CAPE MAY. My warbler numbers: Tennessee 10+ Yellow 1 Chestnut-sided 5 Magnolia 5 Cape May 1 Yellow-rumped 7 Black-throated Green 2 Blackburnian 1 Blackpoll 1 Cerulean 1 Black-and-white 1 Louisiana Waterthrush 1 Mourning 1 Common Yellowthroat 1 Hooded 1 Wilson's 1 Canada 1 Frank Fekel Nashville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
