President's Island
Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN

Checking President's Island this AM produced a single female Mottled Duck in
a wet area on the north side of the Island. The bird was feeding almost
continuously among a group of Mallards. A few distant but ID able photos were
taken.

While looking through a marshy area for a possible Blue-winged Teal nest, a
flash of pink caught my eye. Cardinals occasionally feed in the area but not
this time. A pair of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks were resting way out in the
dead reeds. They rest most of the time as they are more nocturnal but the
female would feed for a while and the male would stand alert nearby. I wonder
what they are thinking??
