While birding in the Harpeth Valley today, I discovered a new (for me, anyway) colony of Eurasian Collared Doves. At least 2 birds were cooing and building a nest on Old Charlotte Pike off Del Rio Pike between the house and trailer at 830 and 826 (mailbox numbers). At the end of O C Pike where it intersects Highway 96, Willow Flycatchers were singing in the young trees, where thery have nested for the past 5 years or so. Grasshopper Sparrows are widespread in the area in most suitable fields. At the new superspeedway access road off 840 between Lebanon and Murfreesboro, both Whip-poor-wills, and Chuck-wills-widows can be heard side by each without even leaving the car!
