Today during the Lake County North American Migration Count Glenn Criswell
located 11 Black-bellied Whistling Ducks on Parker Road in Lake County. Parker
Road runs east off of the Great River Road. They were near the end of the road
on the right when last seen just before noon today.

It was a very windy day today but 6 of us managed to tally 140 species in Lake
County. Other highlights included:

Least Bittern - one calling at Black Bayou at dusk
Lesser Scaup - one lingering at Champey Pocket on Reelfoot Lake
Peregrine Falcon - a late afternoon flyby at Black Bayou
Upland Sandpiper - two were seen beside the road on Hwy. 79W
White-rumped Sandpiper - 26 total, most were on Parker road near the BB
Whistling Ducks
Baird's Sandpiper - a single bird was seen on Parker Road
Dunlin - one bird seen off of the levee
We had 12 species of shorebirds in all.
Laughing Gull - a single adult bird was seen flying down the Mississippi River
near Island 13
Caspian Tern - 2, one on Miss. River and one on Reelfoot Lake
Forster's Tern - seen on Reelfoot Lake
Least Tern - two seen feeding over the pools on Parker Road
Bell's Vireo - Black Bayou, same location as earlier in the week and last year
Philadelphia Vireo - one heard singing on Hwy. 79W
Connecticut Warbler - seen on the same road as one was heard singing last year
on the count
Cape May Warbler - 4, of which 3 were in the cypress trees at Champey Pocket
We had 20 species of warblers in all.

It turned out to be a great count despite the high winds. Participants were:
Glenn Criswell, Mark Greene, Ken Leggett, Nancy Moore, Mike Todd, and Jeff
Wilson. Thanks to all who participated. I've left out a lot of details but I
will have a full summary later and I'm sure that Jeff will post one of his
thorough summaries as well.

Off to bed, good birding,

Mark Greene
Trenton, TN
