On my recent trip to the Northeast where tolls in some states count vehicles, the authorities in Maine were saying that there had been a 2-3% decrease in traffic on I-95, the major north-south artery. Now, that was early in the tourist season (and gas was a bit lower) and I wonder if there has been any change since. Clearly, 2-3% reduction in traffic is not likely to decrease pump prices or significantly increase investment in other technologies. Yet, several people I met on the trip who saw my New York tag (a rental), were surprised that I would go so far (NH & ME) with gas so high. Thus, my hypothesis is that there are far more people talking about changing consumption patterns than those who are actually reducing their miles. Kevin Breault Brentwood, TN > As I get my BBS data for 2008 compiled and entered into the database, I've noticed an interesting pattern. Total number of passing vehicles on my routes was lower this year than in 2007. Has anyone else noticed a pattern in vehicle traffic? One wonders, statistical fluke or effect of high fuel prices?
