Hey Carol and TN-Birders,

You will not have the young Green Herons hanging around very long.
It is almost time for them to migrate.  They will leave soon and head
north in post-fledging dispersal movement.  On 29 May 1966, we
banded a nestling Green Heron which was about the size of a tennis
ball from a nest just below South Holston Dam in Sullivan Co., TN
near the Virginia stateline.  It was found dead 11 July 1966 at
Salem, VA near the Roanoke River, 125 miles ENE of the nest
where it was banded. We estimated it was about eight weeks of age
when recovered.
