March 2, 2008 Jefferson County: Douglas Lake at Taylor Bend area (Baneberry) Late this morning, I re-visited the area of Douglas Lake that I stopped at briefly yesterday. (I understand that Michael Sledjeski and Leslie Gibbens are planning to canoe the area this afternoon. Commitments in Greeneville kept me from joining them, but I'm looking forward to a post of their findings, assuming that they get the chance to go out. From a boat, they'll probably find quite a lot that I couldn't see from land.) A walk (with scope) of 1-1.5 miles upshore from the end of McCorkle Road produced the following: Gadwall (169) American Wigeon (22) Green-winged Teal (141) Lesser Scaup (2) Double-crested Cormorant (4, viewed from the end of McCorkle Road) Bald Eagle (2--1 immature, 1 adult) Dunlin (12, viewed from the end of McCorkle Road) Ring-billed Gull (36) Tree Swallow (2).
