Tennessee NWR
Duck River Unit
New Johnsonville
Humphreys County
With many acres of fresh mudflats being exposed everyday, shorebirds are
finding the bottoms to be a good place to stop. Five beautiful ruddy
turnstones and eight sharp looking black-bellied plovers were the highlight
of the day. I have not had a chance to check my records but off hand I can
only remember observing two ruddy's in the past decade and a half in the DR
bottoms. A nice fully plumed dunlin was present as well. Several hundred
peeps were also present. The Pool 4 area continues to be the hot spot.
Unfortunatly about a mile walk or bike ride from the closed entrance gate.
