Such an eloquent tribute to Dr Skutch by Ol'Coot. It expressed my feelings
exactly. My husband, David and I, along with a group of friends were
privileged to met him at his home in January, 1988. He was a kind and gracious
man that welcomed us and even led a short birding trip around his place.
Although he was not well at that time, he was interested in every bird we saw.
At one point he saw a certain bird (I wish I could remember it) that was
piercing a leaf and said "You people can just go on, I need to check the action
of this bird."
I can remember the peacefulness of his very plain home with no modern
amenities. Everything was in a perfect ecological balance as if there was no
such thing as electricity or automobiles. No noise except birdsongs and a
horde of howler monkeys.
I am so glad such a man existed and we were allowed to associate with him, even
for such a short time. The world needs many more men like him.
Thank you, Ol'Coot.
