TN-birders, I just looked up Oby Blevins Road in Fentress County and it appears to be slightly further north (about 5 minutes latitude, placing the sighting at the very beginning of that road, since I don’t know where the nesting record was) than the Brown-headed Nuthatches that are currently at Cove Lake. These little cuties seem to be continually working their way northward. Not sure why. Maybe the availability of pine habitat or global warming??? It was reported on Oby Blevins Rd. I don't know what part of Fentress Co that is. A few years ago Ed Manus and I had at Brown-headed Nuthatch at Anderson County Park during the Christmas Bird Count. This park is at the north end of a peninsula jutting into Norris Lake. The opposite, north side of the lake is Campbell County. I thought at that time that it was a candidate for the northern-most state record. I studied maps today and Cove Lake is a couple miles north of the site where the nuthatch was observed on the Norris CBC. Chuck Nicholson Norris, TN
