I looked out the window a few minutes ago and saw a Cooper's Hawk on the rim of our bird bath. The bird had already seen me and stared straight at me for a long time, which is only fair since I was staring straight at her. Finally, she entered the water and engaged in vigorous bathing--shaking her whole body, wings, and tail and spreading her feathers until she appeared twice her normal width. After a couple of these gyrations, every feather was soaking wet. She tolerated our observation through binoculars, but flew when we got the camera out. I don't know about you, but this counts as a thrill on my Sunday afternoons. Alice Woody Knox County
