Yesterday afternoon (Dec, 16) at 2:50 PM in cold drizzle and poor light, I
looked outside and had a female/immature COMMON REDPOLL on my finch feeder
with a bunch of Pine Siskins. The bird was seen twice, and I was able to
get a couple of ID photos through a window. Ironically, just a day before I
had ordered holiday cards with one of my Redpoll images, wishing recipients
a Redpoll for 2021 - and then I got one!
A few friends and I staked out the feeders this morning, and I have kept an
eye out all day, but the bird has thus far not returned. It might yet, but
is starting to look like a one-hit wonder. Hopefully it will be the
first of many to show up at locations across the state.
