May 19, 2002 Mud Lake, Lake Co. I saw a single Common Moorhen working along the south edge of the now swollen Mud Lake on Sunday. I mention this separately as it is a species that once was found to be fairly common at Reelfoot, especially the Walnut log area, is no longer found to be breeding there. I have not been back into some of the other pockets where they and Purple Gallinule were once found but may try a search later this year. This species is in a tremendous decline in most of its normal breeding areas. I believe two were seen at different times and places over the TOS weekend. I know Mark Greene saw one at Black Bayou and I think I heard of another sighting.(I'd be interested in details of this other sighting if some one would get in touch off line) I'd also be interested in other locations across the state where these birds are still seen.
