This morning I had a beautiful few hours out in Timberland Park just off
the Natchez Trace near Franklin. While I would have loved to have seen or
heard one last migrant (preferably a Mourning or Connecticut Warbler),
instead I was treated to woods and fields vibrant with local breeders.
Among the many expected breeders, 10 warbler species were seen or heard
including 3 singing Cerulean Warblers. I'm really hopeful one of those
males has a female with him and that there will be a successful nest. While
there are historical records of this species breeding in this area, to my
knowledge it has been quite some time since it's been documented. I plan to
visit periodically over the next month and hopefully will continue hearing
them.
Good birding!
