Thursday, April 27, as I was leaving the house in a light rain, I saw a
flock of birds high in the small trees at the edge of my yard. They
appeared nervous, and kept alighting and flying again. I stopped in the
driveway and got my binos on them, and confirmed my suspicion: 30-40 Cedar
Waxwings.They had been feeding on the holly berries next to the house and
had been disturbed by the garage door opening. The next day, almost half of
last year's crop of berries was gone. Great! Now I can prune the hollies!
