Birdes, I am constantly amazed at the things Cedar Waxwings do. Yesterday, I came home from shopping and heard the high notes of Waxwings. I looked at the dead tree in my backyard and counted 500+ Waxwings in a single tree-making it look like leaves were on the tree! Most lifted off together a little later. Today, I heard them again and there were about 200 in the same tree. I casually glanced across the street at my neighbor's Tulip Poplar, which has leaves, and it was working alive with Waxwings. This is obviously a very large flock and I have no idea what the reason might be for them to spend time in a dead tree. The largest number of Waxwings I have ever seen before this was a flock of about 200 a few years ago. Linda V.
