Yesterday at Brainerd Levee - in Hamilton county - I along with Betty Warmpler had Bobolinks (two males and two females) and a single Black-billed Cuckoo. The Bobolinks were on the horse pasture side of the levee and the cuckoo was across the levee and closer up to the school playground. Betty saw the red eye (I didn't) but I saw the body inc. tail - and the black bill as it flew. Wish I had seen the red eye, but... Around the second curve (facing the school) we had: Semipalmated Plovers 2 White-rumped Sandpipers 1 Baird's Sandpiper 2 Lesser Yellowlegs (they left soon after I arrived) 2 greater Yellowlegs (they arrived about 45 minutes after I arrived) Least Sandpiper Spotted Sandpiper Solitary Sandpiper 1 Black-bellied Plover. Betty got us on this and the next time we looked for it - it was no where to be found. Five swallows Later in the afternoon at Standifer Gap Marsh I had great looks for over five minutes at a Least Bittern as it flew from nearby a few feet from me and landed about twenty feet away from me. Best looks I've had this year at this bird. Also had one Vesper Sparrow - along the edge of the marsh as I walked from the dirt road. And I finally got my Yellow Warbler for the year. We are going back to the levee this morning and hoping for more shorebirds.
