As if the high river is not enough to contend with, pushing the Least Terns
to nest anywhere they can, now land predators are giving them heck at TVA
Lake. Coyote will just trundle around on these ash flats and are a threat
but now 4 immature and 2 adult Great Blue Herons are snatching youngsters. I
saw one chick taken while the colony of adults dove on the other Great
Blues trying to drive them away. At least 2 of the nests have produced young.

The numbers of Black-bellied Whistlers varied on TVA Lake over the morning
from 7 to 14, while over on President's Island, 8 were found in the river
back waters and another 11 were seen just across the state line, in a wet
spot west of Walls Mississippi. Just 32 seen on the day but no telling how
many are around in west TN.
