I paid my first visit to the Foothills Parkway in east TN on Sunday, the 21st. With me was experienced birder, Ken Dubke. The highlight for me was the sweet female Black-throated Green warbler, foraging in the rhododendrum thickets near the radio transmission station (I think that's what it was). _http://vickiehenderson.blogspot.com/2009/06/black-throated-green-warbler.html_ (http://vickiehenderson.blogspot.com/2009/06/black-throated-green-warbler.html) Of special enjoyment also were the additional warblers identified by song: Ovenbird, Chestnut-sided, Hooded, Pine, and Worm eating warblers. We also had red-eyed vireos and blue-headed vireos singing over-head, resulting in a tired neck and for me and two glimpses of the blue in flight. In all, despite muggy, 90-degree conditions and swarming knats (!) we had 20 species.
