Thirty-four
species were noted this morning at my residence in Birchwood (Hamilton County)
or
at or near the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park or Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge –
both at Birchwood, but in Meigs County. Some highlights follow:
·
Two bobwhite quail were seen beside Blythe Ferry
Road between Priddy Road and Shadden Road;
·
Two hatchling bald eagles are still on a nest on
the HWR (Don’t ask where; some of us would get too close and disturb them or
their parents.)
·
An osprey swooped several times toward a
red-tailed hawk sitting in a dead tree on HWR.
·
One yellow-breasted chat was heard on the HWR
property that joins the CRMP. I often hear more than one in this 68 acre area.
I usually hear prairie warblers there also, but not today.
