Rutherford County;
About 10a min I let the dogs out. While I did, I sat to watch them as I didn't
want them go after any fledglings. So, no binos, no camera. A bird I have
never a seen before flew to a branch on the pear tree closest to the deck.
(Three truck lengths away from me) The body shape made me think grosbeak.
However, the body was lemony orange/golden orange and it had a brown head. I
tried to make it into an Oriole or Tanager, but the tail was short. As I was
trying to process, I decided to get up to go in to get the camera. At that
time it flew off. What was I looking at? I've never seen anything like it.
It was grosbeak size or maybe a little smaller. Very confused.
