Hi Birders,

Here at my home in the Charlotte Park section of West Nashville, I have had a
massive influx of migrant female and immature ruby-throated hummingbirds
since around 1:00 P.M. today. This has been the greatest number of hummers I
have
seen since I visited the feeders at Mile High Ranch (AZ) with eleven species
and the Mt. Charleston Hotel (NV) with four species years ago. I only have
one little feeder, but the birds are keeping it drained and are feeding on my
blooming althea/rose of Sharon flowers as well. The birds seem to take the
longest drinks right after I refill the feeder with cold sugar water right out
of
the refrigerator. They are perched on all my shrubbery and in the hackberry
tree behind the deck. The air is abuzz with them "fighting" and "playing"
EVERYWHERE. This is REALLY a fine migration, and I'd love for it to last for a
while. Heretofore, I do not remember ever having more than three hummingbirds
visiting my home at one time. This is certainly the largest concentration of
migrants I have ever seen in Tennessee!

Hooray for hummingbirds!

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
