Had our first day of banding this past Saturday on Big Bald in Unicoi County. Banded the following: 5 juncos (all hatch year) 2 black-throated blues 1 Blackburnian 1 Cedar Waxwing 1 Towhee It was extremely warm and very still air - lots of flies!!!! Also saw a couple of small waves of warblers/vireos: Wormeating, Black and White, Chestnut sided, Solitary Vireo in addition to others of the above Also had Raven, Crows, Red-tail Hawk, Coopers Hawk, Blue Jay, Goldfinch. 7 nets open for different parts of the day. This was our first day for the season and I was busy getting things situated so it was more logistical than anything else. We'll be in full swing for Labor Day. G.
