Migration picked up a bit today in the backyard. We had a Yellow-throated
Vireo (new yard bird), Magnolia Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler and two
Northern Parulas. Since mid-August, we’ve also had Canada Warbler (yesterday –
new yard bird), Prothonotary Warbler (new yard bird), Yellow-throated Warbler
(new yard bird), Kentucky Warbler and Red-eyed Vireo.
Also this evening, a Summer Tanager and Scarlet Tanager showed up at the same
time, less than a foot apart, to wait their turn in the bird creek. The Summer
Tanager gave up before tipping its toes, but the Scarlet Tanager waited out the
Blue Jays and House Sparrows before taking its turn in the water.
We were able to add an Osprey (flyover) to the yard list as well today.
