Today, I was among several invited to a friend's home on Canna Lane in the Cloisters development behind St. Henry's Catholic Church in the Why 100/Percy Warner Drive area of Nashville. I parked my car in one of the parking areas for visitors, and, since I was a bit early, I stayed in the car for a few minutes. All of a sudden, I heard IT...........the unmistakable voice of a baby mockingbird crying for food. I looked toward the sound just in time to see a parent fly into a small tree next to someone's garage. The parent was carrying food, and the vocal anticipation became stronger. During my wait, a second feeding was given. As I started off up the street to my friend's home, a parent bird flew out of the tree and up to the apex of the roof where it observed me with a rather jaundiced eye! This observation took place for a 15 minute period just before noon. When I returned to my car around threeish, a parent bird was still on the "food run" detail.
