Thursday March 5, 7 amThis morning while out in the back yard with the dog, an American Tree Sparrow flew in and landed on a tall, dried flower stalk in my garden, about 10 feet from me. The solid, rufous crown, central chest spot, and bicolored bill were obvious at that distance, and as it turned I saw the white wing band on the side. I've had them only 100 yards from my yard before, in a large field behind us, but now I get to add it as a yard bird.
I've had all the usual visitors to the feeders this morning, but the Fox Sparrow that was a regular last week has not shown up. Still waiting for a Purple Finch too.
