Sorry for the late post, but Nell & Dev's recent posts reminded us. We made a quick afternoon trip to Eagle Bend Fish Hatchery on Friday 3/14. The (4) Ross's Geese were gone, but Tree Swallows were everywhere. At one point we counted 80 on the utility wires, with 30 more working the ponds. Also seen were 4 Wilson's Snipes, 4 Blue-winged Teals, 3 Hooded Mergansers (1 female and 2 juveniles), 1 lonely Ring-necked duck, and 9 Great Blue Herons nesting. We made a quick stop-over Sunday 3/16 to Standifer Gap marsh after a weekend trip to Atlanta to visit relatives. 4 Savannah sparrows, lots of Red-winged blackbirds and Song sparrows, 1 Red-shouldered hawk (heard) was it, but it was about 4 pm and very sunny.
