Hi Pauline,
In their endeavor to give their customers the best email experience
possible, yes I'm being cynical, Yahoo developed some spam filter
software which caused no end of trouble for email groups. This was
later, around the middle of last year or thereabouts, adopted by many
ISPs which of course made things worse. This is why you've seen
different changes in different mailing lists regarding how a sender's
email address shows up in emails sent to a mailing list. Just as an
example where previously a sender's email address might have shown up
as ann2001@xxxxxxxxxxx, it was now showing up as ann via
yarnworkers.com (the name of the mailing list. There was also a lot of
bouncing in some groups. We only experienced a very small number of
bounces on this list comparatively. It caused us no end of problems
with our email messages being marked as spam for everyone using
certain ISPs for their email service. There is a small amount of
members on this list who still aren't receiving emails from our group
due to the adoption of the Yahoo spam software by some smaller ISPs.
I know the above is a mouthfull, so suffice it to say Yahoo spam
filter equals bad things for mailing lists and email in general.
