I did too and there's nothing wrong with me, there's nothing wrong with me, there's nothing wrong with me, there's nothing wrong with me. I've used my teeth as that 3rd hand to hold solder too, Rod. What a small world :-) this is! And breathed in my share of rosin flux fumes. I'm just fine thanks. My chronic asthma (which isn't that bad) goes back to when I was a kid (before I started soldering (started at age 10 as I recall and I'm now almost 65). The sal amoniac I used in tin shop in the 7th grade, now that was bad to inhale. I wouldn't place too much stock in what the EU classifies as dangerous chemicals though. They have lost all credibility in my mind by their behavior over lead. Did you ever hear the story about the boy who cried wolf? That boy now works at the EU. The criteria were "substances classified > as CMR, PBT / vPvB or endocrine disruptors", Now there is a word which stops me in my tracks. I cannot get excited about the dangers of lead in the environment, since my generation grew up with leaded petrol, lead-based paint, I used to hold the tin- lead solder in my mouth since I lacked a third hand when soldering, and so on - I had a test for lead in my system, and it showed nothing. And yet, based on what I have read, the estrogen-like chemicals (which include plasticizers and are all around us every day) have the potential to destroy our civilisation just as effectively as climate change. It is hard to guess which substances are truly frightening. That judgment should be based on scientific evidence, and knowledge of the consequences and alternatives, that is the message which this forum returns to. regards, Rod rod.dalitz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
