This is the easiest \ quickest way to go.  You can write a quick .bat file to 
copy out the HOSTS file to all servers.

You don't need to put extra work on your firewall. DNS is the way to go. If you 
don't control your DNS point the
domains I mentioned earlier into your servers host file to the null address of 
127.0.0.1
