Cause When Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 is installed, the registry entry needed to facilitate logging of MetaFrame Error Events is overwritten. The following registry key gets overwritten: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\System\Ter mservice\Eventmessagefile Resolution Before applying Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 on your MetaFrame serve,r install the hotfix or service pack appropriate for your version of MetaFrame. For MetaFrame 1.8 systems, install Citrix' Hotfix M*183W044 to ensure uninterrupted operation of MetaFrame Error Event logging. For MetaFrame XP systems, install Citrix' Feature Release 3 to ensure uninterrupted operation of MetaFrame Error Event logging. If you already installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 on your MetaFrame server, you can either apply the appropriate hotfix or service pack for your version of MetaFrame or apply the MFEvents fix utility to your server. The MFEvents fix utility reapplies the overwritten registry key. The hotfix or service pack listed above moves the registry key used by MetaFrame to a new location in the registry reserved for Citrix products. Fyi rat Thank you, Roy A. Apparently there is a fix, as the email below from one of the Samba team shows (below). By the way, if you are crazy enough to use Linux/Samba as a PDC in a medium-large corporate environment, I'd be interested to hear how you're going with it! -----Original Message----- From: Gerald (Jerry) Carter [mailto:jerry@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, 8 July 2003 8:54 AM To: Michael Earley Cc: 'John H Terpstra' Subject: RE: 2000 SP4 breaks domain logons with Linux/Samba PDC -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 There is a 'profile acls' parameter in 2.2.8a that should fix the profile problem with Win2kSP4. (but I guess the thread is gone anyway) I don't have anything to say about the whole open vs. closed source question but here is a summary of the issues I've read about/ seen/ heard etc in Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. The following is a living document that will continue to track Windows 2000 open issues and will outline strategies, and possible or actual solutions. Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Open issues: 1. IPSEC policies may stop functioning/ get removed. 2. Slow logons from Citrix ICA sessions 3. Slow Logons from RDP sessions 4. Applications will not or are slow to close on logout. a. (possible apply a script) 5. If installed after the Novel Client, you may need a local administrator account to log in and re-add the machine to the domain. 6. usrlogon.cmd may stop running 7. Mail relay settings may change, if your server is sending mail this setting may have to be reset in the MMC 8. Web Interface (NFuse) 1.6 (and other versions) sites may have read permissions set. Users need script execute permissions. 9. Apparently there is an issue related to Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and the Citrix ctxnotif.dll. During the logoff process, the ctxnotif.dll deletes the printers. The process hangs (which is probably responsible for the longer logoff times) and only has time to delete the second printer if at all before the winlogon closes all running processes and logs you off. The script at http://www.tokeshi.com/raturl/autoendtasks may help logoff issues/ speed.
