I'm sure there is a shrink util which does the business?? there is gallons
of info on MS knowledgebase....

or, you could detach the database so you have a 40MB file, then drop the
database and log, then re-create the database and re-attach file and make
sure you have a maintenance plan to 'truncate' the log or somesuch, I can't
quite remember....

Subject: [THIN] Way OT. How do I shrink the transaction log in MSSQL7?

I have a database with 40MB of data and an almost empty 3.9GB transaction
log. How would I go about getting the transaction log file back to a
reasonable size? I've tried dumping it and setting a checkpoint with the
"truncate log on checkpoint" option set, but the physical file remains at
3.9GB.

I don't really want to take the service offline as it's a busy machine but I
will if I have to.

Regards
Angus
