Is the DB getting backed up by SQL. The transaction logs generally continue to grow when a backup is not running. How do I shrink the transaction log in MSSQL7? I have a database with 40MB of data and an almost empty 3.9GB transaction log. How would I go about getting the transaction log file back to a reasonable size? I've tried dumping it and setting a checkpoint with the "truncate log on checkpoint" option set, but the physical file remains at 3.9GB. I don't really want to take the service offline as it's a busy machine but I will if I have to.
