Thanks for the reply, looks as though it has got some useful
suggestions.

Please can I just add that we use a published desktop, so the
application icons are in the Citrix Program Neighborhood on the
published desktop. This makes it difficult to uninstall/reinstall
citrix clients.

Subject: [THIN] Re: Users getting "failed to start connection
center"message

Hi Jo,

I haven't experienced exactly the same problem.

However, the company I work for have experienced problems with
initiation of ICA connections.

I haven't replied with a finalised draft of a "ICA Connection
Troubleshooting Guide", but have been meaning to create a document for
our companies internal support team to follow, hence the inclusion of a
draft set of steps.

1) Is the ICA clients configuration up to date & in synch with the farm
settings?
Does a refresh fix the problem?

2) Is it protocol specific?
Does an rdp connection to the server work?
If rdp works and ica does not, more ica troubleshooting is needed.

3) Is it a running process/RAM/Virtual Memory issue on the client?
Does a restart of the client fix the problem?
With connection problems that are client, not server based, this often
resolves the problem, for a while as a workaround so users can then get
up and running while the problem is looked at.

4) Is it ICA client version specific?

What type/version of the ICA client are reporting problems, just vX of
Program Neighbourhood? If running an older version of the ICA client,
within a test environment, does an upgrade of the client resolve the
problem?

5) Is it a client OS version issue?
What client host operating systems are experiencing the problem?

Are all host OS's having a problem or only specific OS's?

6) Is it a client profile issue?
What type of profiles are in use on the client? Roaming, Local?
If roaming, what happens if you get a user to move to different
hardware, does the problem follow the user? - if it does, then it may be
a profile specific issue, so backup & delete the profile. What happens
then, does the problem disappear? We have experienced various profile
corruption issues.

7) Is it a terminal services profile issue?
Backup & delete the terminal services profile.
Try again. Does the problem remain or go away.

Hope this helps.

Joe

I work with a Citrix XP farm, hosted on Windows 2000 SP4 servers.
Recently, a number of users have started to get "failed to start
connection center" messages when they try to access applications via
Citrix Program Neighborhood.
I have found a number of people reporting this as a problem on various
forums, not not definitive solutions have been posted. One suggestion
is that it may be profile based. However, one user has reported that
application icons were working OK during one session, but then stopped
working during the same session. This suggests that it may not be
profile related.
Any suggestions would be appreciated to troubleshoot this issue, or a
solution would be even better.
Thanks
Jo
