Hello, A couple of things: Download and run the SMC Console. Thomas has copy on his website here: http://www.thomaskoetzing.de/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=5 8&Itemid=159 The SMC will let you drill down to the VC level to what your traffic patterns look like. Are you using compression/encryption anywhere between the two end-points? Ie: Is the ICA session being encrypted and compressed? Are your routers performing compression and encryption? Consider setting bandwidth limitation via Citrix Policies Aside for ICA traffic, what other types of traffic is going over the 1mbit link. Consider a differential compression and caching device (Like a WanScaler) Not sure what you mean by Indirect UPD vs Direct UPD. There is only one UPD. The Indirect vs Direct refers to use of Network Printers via UPD or Directly. Indirect -> The client network printer is created as an Auto-created printer (using driver on server or UPD) Direct -> If the client has a network printer mapped to it then the Presentation Server will create map a network connection directly to that Network Printer/Queue when the session is created and bypass the auto-creation mechanism for that printer. This could also be your issue Look into a third-party solution like screwdrivers or thinprint. It's also entirely possible that user's needs have outgrown the resources available to them. Hi I have a very serious issue I need assistance with with. Site 1 Head Office, Citrix farm, AD Server, Windows 2003 File Server Site 2 Small Citrix Office, 25 users, local Windows 2003 Print Server We have a small office (Site 2) connecting to our Citrix farm (Site 1) over a 1Mb link. The Small office has a local Windows 2003 Print Server. We have an issue where the link is being flooded for the majority of the day. Our Networks team have confirmed the traffic using all of the link is Citrix (1494). I can only assume it is due to Printing but could be wrong.. The client workstations at Site 2 are Windows XP based. Users authenticate over the WAN to AD (in Site 1). They are setup with Microsoft Network Printers in Windows XP which get autocreated on the Citrix Server. I have setup a Citrix Policy so only Universal Drivers are used (no Native Drivers) and also using Indirect Printing. Applications used in Site 2 are mainly Web based but most use JAVA. Users are complaining about Slow Printing and Slow Application Access. Most likely due to link flooding and possible packet loss on link. 1) Is there a better way to configure Printing? 2) I was under the impression Indirect Printing is the way to go as the Citrix Server are not on the same LAN as the Print Server? 3) Is there an easy way to determine exactly what ICA traffic is flooding the link? The Networks team don't have any tools that will provide any more detail. 4) Is the link big enough? Is there a rule I can follow - ie 50kb per user? 5) I have not enabled Print bandwidth restrictions. Is this recommended to limit the bandwidth a print job can use? What is the recommended setting for a 1Mb link? Some users print large reports - ie 300 pages which already takes around 5 minutes before the Printer will start. Restricting the Print job would make it even slower would it not? 6) What is the Print flow in my scenario. Troubleshooting may be easier if I know the Printing process flow Example - User Prints from Word in Citrix using Universal Driver Citrix Server to Client (Print Job Compressed and sent as EMF image to client) Client to Citrix Server (Compressed) Citrix Server to Print Server (Compressed) Print Server - Printer (Spools) The above may be completely wrong. Please help me understand how Print flow works in Citrix when Indirect Universal Driver Printing is used vs Universal Driver Direct Printing. 7) Id like to know how big the Print traffic is when travelling from Citrix Farm to client and whether there is a way to fix/control it. Is there an easy way to measure this? This is causing me alot of stress and any help would be really appreciative. Regards Angela PS - I just worked all night looking at this issue so apologise if my description isn't clear... _________________________________________________________________ Are you paid what you're worth?
