Given what you've said so far, I'm tempted to think it's merely because
the instantiated word object cannot create a temp file (you mentioned
that word appears).
So I'm more of the mind that it's something word is trying to do, per
se, than purely an IE thing.
That's not to say it's not due to an IE restriction, though.
What does filemon say, when this happens?
