Here's the down and dirty...

The main difference is that ESX does not have a host operating system,
and GSX does. (Technically, ESX runs on a modified Redhat 7.3
microkernel).

GSX installs like a normal application on Windows 2000 or 2003 (or
Linux), and you build your virtual machines there.

ESX installs on an empty machine and manages its own everything.

GSX is cheaper than ESX. If you don't know Linux, then use GSX. If your
budget is tight, use GSX.

If you want to build a big badass farm for production on a few huge
boxes, use ESX.

FWIW, they also just announced a new version of GSX, so I guess you
could say it currently has their latest technology.

Subject: [THIN] OT - Vmware ESX vs GSX

A few weeks ago the was a discussion about the merits of using VMware.
I'm
looking into it and am wondering what are major differences between ESX
and GSX. I'm looking at using it in a development/test environment.
Which
would you recommend?
