Are you sure that there's definitely data set for the cases where you
can't read the attribute? Does ADSIEDIT show a DN in there?

I did notice that, but didn't bother doing much to find out the proper
way of doing it, as of yet I've never wanted to code / script the
"unsetting" of an attribute.

Sounds good - defaultnamingcontext - unless you can be sure your
(exchange) users are all grouped in some sub-hierarchy.
