Actually, you are missing a step there. What you need to do is stop and
disable the Exchange 5.5 services. Then, after you have verified that the
Exchange system is still functioning, you will need to uninstall Exchange
5.5 from the server. This will effectively remove that Exchange server from
the ORG. If the server still persists, then you delete the object with the
ORG using the Exchange Admin console.

Shutdown the servers, then after a few days (maybe a week or so) remove the
servers from the management console.

I have a 3 server Exchange 5.5 site. I need to remove 2 of my servers,
neither of which is the first server that was deployed.

There are no private or public resources on these machines. So it should be
just a matter of deleting them from the site.

My question is, do I want to delete them from the site with their Exchange
services still running, or do I shut down the services, then delete them?
