I've seen spam mail that got send to other addresses by NDR bouncing.

Read an article about reverse NDR spam:

This might be interesting to read:

They may also be NDR's from your Exchange Server attempting to be
delivered to addresses that aren't valid.

Thanks for your advice, Yes NT SP 6 and Exch SP 4.

I have just found an article, Ms Knowledge Base 310669 - "MS02-011: An
Authentication Flaw Could Allow Unauthorized Users to Be Authenticated
on the SMTP Service" if anyone else has suffered a similar issue. You
can follow the links to download a patch, which I'll try this evening.

Rgds,

Hi,

Sorry for the OT, but we run a Exchange 5.5 server that is constantly
used to relay messages. Message Relay is turned OFF but at various times
in the IMS "Outbound messages awaiting delivery" there can be 20-30
e-mails going out with no originator.

I know a firewall would go a long way to putting a stop to this, but
there is no chance of money being spent on IT here. Great!

Anyone any ideas?

Jon.....
